As soon as he was back in a home, Barney began to relax. In those first few days, he mostly slept as if he finally knew he was safe. Even then, it was clear he was special. Goofy and playful, he loved games and adventures, but he was equally content curling up on the sofa for gentle cuddles. He quickly trusted Matt and Alice and enjoyed exploring their neighbourhood in Amsterdam.

It did not take long for them to realise Barney was meant to stay. They requested to adopt him, and he became a permanent part of their family.

One of their favourite things about him is the way he sleeps upside down, legs in the air, a small reminder that he feels completely safe and loved. He thrives when the three of them are together on the sofa or running along the beach in Bergen aan Zee. All he wants is unconditional love, and he gives it right back.

Barney is more than just a dog to Matt and Alice. As much as they saved him, he also saved them. When Alice was struggling with her mental health, Barney brought joy, laughter, and a sense of routine into their lives. He made them a family, and they cannot imagine life without him.
