Bella’s story begins with her mother, Bonita, who was rescued from a shelter in Manisa, Türkiye. At the time of her rescue, shelter staff believed Bonita had already been spayed. But just two weeks later, it became clear that she was actually pregnant, and before long, a litter of ten puppies was born. Seven of them survived – one of them was Bella.

As Pets in Turkey shared in their own post back in March 2024:
“Six months ago Bonita was desperately waiting in a shelter and our paths crossed. We were not supposed to take any new rescues due to our clinic debts, but we said yes anyway! We had no clue that she was also pregnant and she gave birth to 10 puppies. After the initial shock we did our best to take care of them and 7 did survive. They are 4 months old and healthy today. As for Bonita, she flew to her forever home in Switzerland and started her well-deserved life in a loving family…”

Büşra says, by the time they connected with Pets in Turkey in September 2024, most of the puppies had already found homes. Only Bella and her brother Jasper were still in Izmir, and Bella’s documents were ready. That’s how their journey with her began.

“We were a couple with no prior experience in dog care and, honestly, a lot of hesitation about whether we could do it. But after Turkey’s new mass-killing law against street animals, we felt a deep need to help in some way. When we discovered Pets in Turkey, we decided to open our home as a foster family for dogs traveling to Europe. During an online meeting, they told us Bella was ready to travel – and if we wanted to foster, she could come right away. We said yes without a second thought.

In November 2024, right around her first birthday, Bella arrived in Berlin with the help of a flight volunteer. It only took us three days to realize that fostering was not enough – she was already part of our family. I immediately wrote to Pets in Turkey and confirmed that we wanted to adopt her.

Since then, Bella has filled our lives with joy and love. Though she’s been with us for just ten months, it feels like she has always been here. I can’t even imagine life without her anymore.

And as for her siblings — they’ve found happiness too. Jasper came to Berlin in January and joined his family here. One lives in Scotland, another in Munich, one in Amsterdam, and four others are also in Berlin — all healthy, all loved.” ❤️
