Coco, when she was left to the shelter by the veterinary faculty

Coco, when she was found by Adopt.Nl

Coco

Coco’s story reached her future family through Adopt.nl, the organization that helped rescue her. They had seen how fostering could transform lives and were deeply impressed by the professional, caring, and dog-focused way the foundation treated every animal in their care.

For years, they had been encouraged by loved ones to adopt a dog, knowing they had the time, space, and lifestyle to welcome one. Still, they were unsure if it would be the right fit. That changed the day they heard about a dog named Coco and learned her heartbreaking story.

Coco was born within the grounds of a veterinary faculty at a university in Türkiye. Instead of receiving proper care and love, she was neutered and left in a public shelter. The shelters there are extremely harsh environments, and although Coco initially appeared physically healthy, she was left to deteriorate. When rescuers saw her, even the shelter staff said she had no hope and that it would be best to let her die. Fortunately, her rescuers refused to give up on her. They got her out of there and, with the help of Adopt.nl, began the process of rebuilding both her physical and emotional health.

When Coco’s story was shared with her future family through photos, something moved deeply within them. They instantly fell in love with her. Meeting her in person confirmed everything; this sweet girl belonged with them. She also bonded beautifully with their grandchildren, who visit often, which made the decision even clearer.

They decided to apply for adoption and were overjoyed when they learned that Coco could come live with them. She has now been with them for over six months, and they cannot imagine life without her. She has settled in wonderfully and is thriving. They are so proud of her. Her journey is a constant reminder of how incredible and resilient dogs are. Coco is the sweetest, most loving dog, and they are still amazed at how trusting and gentle she is with everyone, despite what she endured at the hands of those who should have cared for her.

Coco had a very difficult start in life, but today she enjoys every single day. She loves her walks in the park and has already made many dog friends in the neighborhood. With her family, she has finally found her forever home. 🤍

Happy Coco with Willem & Anneke’s grandchildren
