Darwin
Renin saw Darwin completely by chance in an Instagram post at the beginning of November 2025. He looked a lot like her dog that she had recently lost at the age of 18, and his skinny, devastated state touched her deeply. She felt as if her own deceased boy was right there. Renin contacted the people who shared the post on Instagram, and they told her that he was still at the shelter.
She remained undecided about adopting him for a day or two because, at that time, her other dog, Küba, was approaching 17 years of age, and they had been struggling with multiple organ failure for a long time. Frankly, Küba’s condition was not improving at all, and she knew she was going to lose him soon. Seeing Darwin like that and knowing that Küba would be gone shortly affected her deeply, so she decided to adopt Darwin. Actually, she didn't have it in mind to adopt another dog while going through the grieving process, but now she says she is so glad it happened. Darwin saved her life. If it had not been for him, she would not have been able to get back on her feet after the loss of Küba.
The people who shared the listing were volunteers at the Kısırkaya shelter. Renin arranged the pet transport and other details because she was in Berlin. Thankfully, they handled the release procedures without her needing to be there. Also, the shelter apparently did not allow adoptions without neutering, but Darwin was very weak and sick. She did not want him to undergo surgery at that moment, especially under shelter conditions. They helped her with that issue as well. Renin had Darwin taken directly to the clinic after he left the shelter. While he normally should have been around 14 kilograms, he had dropped down to 6 kilograms. He had mange and was also suffering from other bacterial infections, but the main problem turned out to be his hip.

One side of his hip was broken. In fact, they later learned before the surgery that both sides were broken. He had most likely been hit by a car, and it seemed his previous owners had only gotten one side operated on. That's why his walking was not normal. He had hip surgery after his mange treatment, but because it was delayed, there was some weakening in his muscles. He received physical therapy for about a month and a half after the surgery. Renin does not know exactly how many times he was abandoned or what he had been through. All she knows is that he was likely taken from the street to the shelter following a report because of his mange. When she saw the listing, he had been at the shelter for two or three weeks. Consequently, he also had behavioral problems like separation anxiety and minor aggression.
After a four-month process of treatment and titer tests, he arrived in Berlin around mid-March. Renin also has two cats, and the early days were very difficult. He kept trying to attack the cats, but now they seem to have found a bit more balance. They are still working on his separation anxiety, but he is getting better with each passing day. His true character has really started to emerge. Despite everything he has experienced, he is a very joyful, curious boy who loves to explore. He is generally very happy in Berlin. He really enjoys running around in the parks. In spite of the terrible days he went through, Renin wants him to be incredibly happy and spoiled to his heart's content.
