Helena & Lucky’s first photo in Cappadocia

Lucky

More than a year ago, Helena and her family travelled to Turkey, a place they had always wanted to visit and where they had heard that many dogs and cats lived peacefully among people. When they arrived in Istanbul, they did not see as many animals as expected, which surprised them.

Later on, in a small village in Cappadocia, they met a gentle white dog on a terrace while watching the hot air balloons. He walked over, sat comfortably on a lap and stayed close, calm and cheerful. They spent almost an hour cuddling with him before returning to their apartment. The dog followed them to the door and even onto the bed, so they offered him some food before saying goodbye. Although they found it difficult to leave him, they thought it was best for him to remain in the environment he was used to. Throughout their stay in Cappadocia, they met many friendly dogs, but this one stood out because of his warm and easygoing nature.

When their trip ended and they reached the Istanbul airport, they learned about the new law concerning stray animals. Helena was especially concerned about the white dog from the village. She decided to try to find him again. She contacted the hotel, but no one had seen him recently. She also asked in several Facebook groups, hoping someone might recognise him. After about a week, a message arrived from a kind person who had seen him near a supermarket. Her name was Hilal, and she took him into her home to keep him safe.

Through this connection, Helena reached Adopt.nl, who stepped in to help with the rest. The organisation arranged his care, provided a safe place for him to stay, and kept Helena updated with video calls. Thanks to their support, the white dog from Cappadocia, now named Lucky, was prepared for adoption and able to travel to his new home.

Today, Lucky lives with Helena, her family and his dog sister Chanel. He has settled in comfortably, enjoying the companionship, routines and affection of his new home. The family is grateful to everyone who helped bring Lucky to safety and supported him throughout the journey.
