Lucky

Elif tells Lucky’s story:

“After I decided that I wanted to adopt a dog, my mother came across an adoption post for a dog named Lucky on social media. Lucky was such a sweet 1,5 years old little dog that I thought, “Maybe this is the dog whose human I will be.”

When I applied, I learned she had already been adopted. But two weeks later, her post reappeared. It felt like a sign. I reached out again, and that: when I learned her full story: born on the streets, already rehomed four times in her short life. The family who had most recently taken her in had returned her, leaving her without a home once more.

Sweet girl, Lucky

Lucky, the explorer!

I knew then that I wanted to give her the stable, loving home she deserved. That’s how our story began in 2021. Lucky is not the kind of dog who gives her heart to just anyone. Maybe because she has known so many homes, she chooses her people carefully. Her instincts are sharp, her communication expressive, she only truly opens up to those she decides are worthy of her trust.

A few years later, when I made the decision to work abroad, there was never any question that she would come with me. I began preparing her travel documents immediately, in fact, they were ready long before my own visa was approved. In 2024, we moved to Berlin together.

Since then, it has been the two of us, building our life side by side. Exploring a new city, finding our favorite corners, learning what home means when you carry it with each other.

What can I say, I’m incredibly lucky. Lucky that she chose me.
