Maple, found and rescued by petsinturkey in İzmir

Maple

Sarp tells us Maple's story:

“It was in March of 2023, right after we moved to our new house, when we chanced upon a post about Maple being up for adoption and immediately fell in love with this sweet little baby. Thanks to some cosmic joke, she had been found in the same part of the world Ece and I both arefrom, which we took as a fateful sign. We contacted petsinturkey on the same evening and had been received with the warmest of welcomes. It turned out she had been contacted twice before for adoption but failed to go through on both occasions. Luckily enough, third time was the charm. Our stars and planets have never ceased to align since.

As the story goes, Maple was found in a small village just outside Izmir, practically skin and bones. It was suspected that she had been stoned away and left purposely malnourished by the villagers. She had been between temporary locations before she was safely tucked away in one of Pets in Turkey’s shelters in Çeşme. Thanks to Sibel Akın, the preparations have been handled smoothly from the moment we contacted her and, in under six weeks, Maple was given the go for her trip that would kickstart her new life in the Netherlands. We were anxious to meet Maple and Kemal, who was kind enough to be a flight volunteer, at the Schiphol airport. She was rightly confused (and strangely playful as ever) that entire first day, yet unaware that she was surrounded by people who’d forever love (and snuggle) her to the marrow.

She is the muse!

Maple with their friend, Doğa

In her first week in the Netherlands, this sweet little girl has tricked us into believing she’s a calm-natured, almost saintly individual when in truth she turned out to be this little ball of energy that loves to play endlessly with every toy-shaped item in sight (and with us, every time she gets bored of them). In time, she reminded us how to be kids again and filled our days with mischief, a healthy dose of chaos, and a lot of laughter. She gave us her best puppy eyes and we fed her with kisses and treats in return, in our dubious pact of alliance. Looking back, it’s fair to claim that she has trained us to be better people instead of the other way round.

After a few weeks that went by with a lot of anxiety and fearful barking at anything and anyone she deemed as a threat, she has grown visibly more at ease, settled, and calmer by the day upon understanding this is a safe haven (and her forever home). These days, she’s busy snoring her head off on the couch, mistaking our socks for chewing material, and passing gas in the slyest ways imaginable. In other words, she is the pocket-sized, furry little menace to the society that she always is. We feel more and more blessed every day that she’s chosen us as her eternalfamily and best friends. We wouldn’t change her for the world.

Have we mentioned that she is the coolest?
