Ezgi found baby Naomi outside her building, June 2019

Naomi

Ezgi tells us Naomi’s story:

“I am a person who cannot have enough cats. So I always wanted to adopt a second cat, but my elder cat, Süt, was the queen of the house; no matter how many times I tried bringing a sibling, there was chaos, and I was working long hours, so I couldn’t risk leaving them together. And to be honest, I guess I needed to come across the right one…

It was June 2019. Election night in Istanbul, and it was an exciting one for a change; there was hope! That day, after voting, I found a tiny black kitten outside my building, eyes infected, belly swollen, but super cute. Hours later at night, when I took out the trash, she was still there. Still, in the position I left her. It broke my heart. Maybe I was encouraged and overjoyed by the election results, being a bit tipsy, celebrating alone at home :)  So I brought her upstairs and took her to the vet after midnight. She has already won my heart!

Good looks, long legs, a little bitchy energy

While Ezgi thinks that it is a temporary rescue…

Baby Naomi with Süt

That temporary rescue turned into vet visits, parasites, and even waking up with cat poop on my forehead. Her state was not very good for weeks. But even sick, she was playful, and I was in love! Someone suggested the name Naomi after Naomi Campbell; long legs, good looks, a little bitchy, detached energy. It was perfect! From day one, she was cute trouble and my absolute love. She claimed the TV during tennis matches, curled up on my books, with full intellectual energy. She's also scratched my eyelid twice (black eyes, almost stitches, bleeding). My body is covered in scars. But no problem, I love her!

When I got a job in Barcelona, there wasn't even a question: I wasn't leaving without my cats. The flight was traumatic. Süt was shocked, and Naomi took her stress out on my arms. Barcelona company apartment got peed on immediately; bed, couch, floor. I had to pay for the ruined couch. But I was happy. I didn't know anyone in the city, but I had my little family.

I lost my older cat Süt a couple of years ago, which broke me. I held on to my Naomi, my little bandit. Now she is enjoying the Barcelona weather, watching birds on the terrace. She has a rescued dachshund, semibrother of my boyfriend, little cute Olaf, to whom she still shows her strong character (of course), and I don’t know how I could be without her.

I was so lucky to have found her on the street. Turkey is full of cats like Naomi, sweet, scrappy, loving, ready to join your life.”

She prefers tennis, but this is also ok
